Expertise

Tom holds a dual role as a Consultant Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapist and an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist. A consultant physiotherapist is a highly qualified professional who has advanced skills and education beyond the standard scope of physiotherapy, as defined by Health Education England. As a consultant physiotherapist, he works at the highest level of clinical practice, combining advanced clinical expertise, leadership, education, and research to deliver specialist patient care.

He has extensive experience in MSK practice, rheumatology, and orthopaedics. Having initially worked in the private sector managing medicolegal physiotherapy cases, Tom has developed a strong understanding of medicolegal rehabilitation and complex case management. Tom currently works as a Consultant MSK Physiotherapist within the Ministry of Defence and as an Advanced MSK Physiotherapy Practitioner in primary care. He has significant experience in identifying and managing complex presentations, including serious pathology, long-term conditions, and multimorbidity.

Working at the first point of patient contact, Tom is responsible for the diagnosis and management of a wide range of MSK conditions. His role includes requesting and interpreting diagnostic investigations, such as blood tests and imaging, and making referrals to secondary care services, including orthopaedics and specialist physiotherapy, where clinically appropriate. He has completed advanced postgraduate training, enabling him to independently prescribe medications and perform injection therapies. Tom has been awarded several prestigious clinical-academic fellowships through Health Education England and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, including a lead-author paper published in the internationally recognised journal Annals of Medicine.

Tom has been a Case Manager since 2025.
